Accumulated Earnings

Accumulated Earnings or Earned Surplus or Retained Earnings - Accumulated Earnings are those earnings that your Board of Directors resolved to retain in your core business or use to pay off corporate debt rather than pay out to shareholders as dividends. Be aware that the IRS may view accumulated earnings of a privately held corporation as an attempt to avoid the higher personal income taxes on your shareholders resulting in an accumulated profits tax.
